Pride Month 2023: Turning Celebration Into Action

Pride is a time of celebration. It’s also a great time for action. Allyship, learning, and advocacy are more important than ever. Whether you are a member of our community or not, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone (safely).

Here are some ideas of what you can do:

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ Call/text your LGBTQ+ friends/family to pour love into them.

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ Learn more about the record-breaking 540+ pieces of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation being tracked by the Human Rights Campaign.

πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ Pick up a copy of Two Spirits, One Heart: A Mother, Her Transgender Son, and Their Journey to Love and Acceptance by Marsha and Aiden Auzumi.

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ Check out the LGBTQReads list by Bookshop or Them’s 2023 recommended reading list.

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ Reflect on how the five universal human values of love, peace, right action, non-violence, and truth, as embodied by Human Values Collective, can be used to make positive, sustained social change.

❣️ Remember these powerful words:

β€œβ€œIf I wait for someone else to validate my existence, it will mean that I’m shortchanging myself.””
— Zanele Muholi, South African activist & artist

Happy Pride Month!
